What makes a good men’s retreat?

I asked the question: “What makes a good men’s retreat?”

This is what you said…

I want to be able to connect with God, not have a boring speaker. I want long corporate prayer time where the men pour out their hearts to God. I want I want contemporary praise and worship time to connect to God through music. A good Bible time with other men focused on what makes men be men – God, and how to use what’s in scripture in my everyday life. ~ Walter

Dad icon

I was in the airport looking at some shirt that had a little beach ball icon printed on the front that seemed to embodied summer. I thought about how a gavel represents a judge, a stethoscope a doctor, and an apple a teacher.

It got me thinking, "What simple icon would represent a dad?"

Have Todd Speak to Your Group

One of the great things about being the Familyman is that I get to encourage parents all over the country. One of the bad things is that I can’t go everywhere. Until now.

I’m scheduling a speaking, road trip in the fall to south Florida and to New Hampshire a little earlier. To get there, I’ll be passing through some spots that I don’t often have the chance to speak in so…if you’ve ever entertained the idea of having me come and encourage your group…now is your chance.

The Origins of Kid’s Day

I have to admit there is satisfaction in having originated the holiday known as Kid’s Day, although I find it hard to believe that some well-meaning greeting card company hasn’t come up with the idea to sell cards. I mean if there is Boss’s Day, Secretary’s Day, In-law’s Day, and Postal Carriers-who-deliver-by-car Day, you’d think they’d have come up with Kid’s Day.

Greetings from Canada…Eh?

OK this has to be quick. I’m sitting in front of a huge old monastery that some friends of ours live in…cool story. Anyway, we just got out of Canada on Sunday and are making our way to Nebraska (need to be there Friday).

In a nut shell, Canada was beautiful. The weather was lousy most of the time but the few sunny days made the sunny days all the brighter.

We spent several days in New Brunswick, two days on Prince Edward Island, and a couple days near Halifax.

Greetings from Maine

Hey Dad,
Things are going good in the Familyman mobile. We’ve made our way north and about ready to cross into the border on our way to Sussex, NB.

Stopped today at Kennebunkport, MN and drove by the Bush summer home (Walker Point), Nice little spread but it didn’t seem like it had adequate RV parking so we didn’t drop in for lunch.

Repaired, Re-stocked, and Ready to Roll Again

Hey Dad,
For the last couple of days we’ve been home running like ants to get ready to hit the road again. After a great week in PA we made a bee-line home to restock, fit in a few dentist/doctors/CLEP appointments, and take care of a long list of RV items.

My RV list included a cabinet door that was broken a day or two before we came home, removing and having the furnace repaired, recalibrating the back awning that kept unfurling during heavy wind, removing/replacing the shower skylight (leak be gone!), and about a half dozen lesser items.

The National Antietam Battlefield

Hey Dad,
While everyone is taking showers I thought I’d update you on our RV travels.

Tuesday we stopped off at Harper’s Ferry and learned all kinds of stuff about John Brown and his attempt to arm and free the slaves in the south. It was an easy stop and a mighty beautiful spot to stop.
