Brrr…w/o Snow

Hey Dad,

It’s cold up here in Northern Indiana…but what we need is some snow. My kids keep asking, “Do you think we’ll get some snow soon, Dad?”

Back when I was a kid we had snow…and plenty of it. Actually, I don’t know if that’s true, but it seemed like it in my memory. I use the Blizzard of ‘78 as the shock and awe measuring stick to impress my children. “Back in the Blizzard of ‘78, we had snow drifts as high as snow plows…missed school for two weeks…and couldn’t get out of the driveway until JULY!!!!”

I just checked the internet to see when that was…Jan, 25th.  It’s supposed to snow all week…but…I don’t know.

I love Florida and warm beaches, but there’s something ‘snuggly and magical’ about being snowed in. It’s almost like God uses the cold and snow to push us back into our houses, slow down the world, and force us into family time. The fire roars, the hot chocolate simmers, and everyone looks out the windows in awe and hopes that it won’t stop.

Yep, we need some snow.

But until it comes, I’m still the dad. I can tell that my wife needs me to kick it into gear and be creative with our family. I tend to take the lazy way out…the easy way…the pop ina  video at night way. She needs me to…to… I don’t know, she just needs me to try.

I get tired of trying to be creative…to think of something different.

What we need is SNOW!!!

Sigh. I think I’ll go check my weather app.

You ‘da dad,

Todd
