I’m about to get in the car for a 990-mile roundtrip car-camping trip with my wife and four kids. So you know where those last four ideas came from.

I am in need of some advice from you and other dads out there. After 13 years of wonderful marriage, my wife and 5 kids (ages 10-1) have never managed to take a true family vacation. Sure, we have traveled for multiple “obligations” where we were obligated to vacation in Kansas for a wedding or other family event (where 95% of the extended family resides). Besides, does anyone every choose to vacation in Kansas? We have also traveled for my work, but my wife and kids vacationed without me during those trips. We live in a fixer-upper that has required more fixing than we expected, particularly in 2010, which has depleted our savings and wiped out any possibility of a big vacation in the near future. We were all OK with our circumstances and started again saving for Disney, DC, the ocean, etc when we received…..the EMAIL (scary music follows).

Kulula attendants make an effort to make the in-flight “safety lecture” and announcements a bit more
entertaining. Here are some real examples that have been heard or reported:

There is no assigned seating on Kulula; you just sit where you want. On one particular flight, passengers were
apparently having a hard time choosing, when a flight attendant announced, “People, people we’re not picking
out furniture here, find a seat and get in it!”

Hey Todd,

I love the resources, pep talks, encouragement and laughs here - not to mention the connection with other dads trying to do their best - God's way. I'm looking for ideas for Daddy-Daughter date nights as well as Daddy-Son date nights too. I've been way too lax in spending one-on-one time with my daughter (almost 12) and my son (9). Thanks. You rock!
