Familyman Steve S Needs Your Help
I am in need of some advice from you and other dads out there. After 13 years of wonderful marriage, my wife and 5 kids (ages 10-1) have never managed to take a true family vacation. Sure, we have traveled for multiple “obligations” where we were obligated to vacation in Kansas for a wedding or other family event (where 95% of the extended family resides). Besides, does anyone every choose to vacation in Kansas? We have also traveled for my work, but my wife and kids vacationed without me during those trips. We live in a fixer-upper that has required more fixing than we expected, particularly in 2010, which has depleted our savings and wiped out any possibility of a big vacation in the near future. We were all OK with our circumstances and started again saving for Disney, DC, the ocean, etc when we received…..the EMAIL (scary music follows).
Kulula Airlines…a little bit different
Kulula is a low-cost South-African airline that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Their head office is situated in Johannesburg. Check out their new livery!
Kulula attendants make an effort to make the in-flight “safety lecture” and announcements a bit more
entertaining. Here are some real examples that have been heard or reported:
There is no assigned seating on Kulula; you just sit where you want. On one particular flight, passengers were
apparently having a hard time choosing, when a flight attendant announced, “People, people we’re not picking
out furniture here, find a seat and get in it!”

Daddy/Daughter Date Night Ideas
I love the resources, pep talks, encouragement and laughs here - not to mention the connection with other dads trying to do their best - God's way. I'm looking for ideas for Daddy-Daughter date nights as well as Daddy-Son date nights too. I've been way too lax in spending one-on-one time with my daughter (almost 12) and my son (9). Thanks. You rock!

The Really Important Stuff to Teach Your Sons
In my head I have been concocting a list of the most important stuff to teach your sons. Things like... how to flush a public toilet with your foot how to spray a stream of water with a garden hose…
Dad’s Thumbs Up for Steve Jobs
I read this recently, and although Steve Jobs is a Budist, I’m impressed by his stance. Thought you might be too, and that it might help if you’re thinking Android vs. Apple.
WASHINGTON, DC (Catholic Online) – In a response to a heated email from Gawker Media’s Ryan Tate, Steve Jobs remained resolute on his “no porn” policy for iPhones and iPads.
Tate’s Valleywag Column on Gawker.com stated, “I didn’t plan to pick a fight with Steve Jobs last night. It just sort of happened: An iPad advertisement ticked me off; I sent the Apple CEO an angry email; he told me about ‘freedom from porn.'”

A Flashlight Kind of Father – by John Trainer
I remember we moved into a really cool house in the woods. Near the river in Jacksonville, Florida, which is the only hometown I’ve ever known. My folks borrowed everything they could to get into this house and it was brand new. So when hurricane David brewed up in Summer of ’79, they had no money for plywood or anything like hurricane supplies. I later learned that my dad had visions of staying up all night with a football helmet to protect his noggin as he listened for some sign of danger to his young family and brand new house. If he could have protected the home with his will, we would’ve been well covered.
