Perspective
Hey Dad,
Every once in a while you’d just like things to be easy. For a dad that rarely happens. I know that every time I go out to the RV launch pad it seems there is another thing that doesn’t work.
I still can’t figure out why the roof is leaking…and now I think one of my four batteries is dead. The thing weighs a ton and is a bear to get out. The heater which worked a day or two ago isn’t working (I think it’s a moisture problem)…and the list goes on.
Then I get the call that the guy I’ve been having breakfast with every week for the last 12 years died today. He ‘d been sick for a while and although I wasn’t totally shocked, I feel shocked.
Standing in the room with his five grown daughters their husbands, grandchildren, and his wife of over 50 years, I felt like things were brought into perspective. Suddenly RV stuff didn’t (and doesn’t) seem so overwhelming or even important.
Relationships are important. That’s why I just emailed my wife and said we need to go out for dinner and have some family time.
This time is short. It seems like it stretches on forever…but this dad thing ends just like that (snap.)
Go be a dad and husband,
Todd
You nailed it yesterday —- what a fitting tribute for such a great man. He would have been pleased. Thanks for loving my Dad!
Todd – (the little brother we never had) Dad loved you and I think the feeling was returned. . . Thank you for everything.
Todd-your words were amazing yesterday. It is great to know of the relationship you and Dad had. I’ll claim you as a little brother anyday!! Thanks for sharing your love for our Dad.
There are no words to express our gratitude for everything you have done for our family. Dad cherished your breakfast time together. He was an awesome guy – we will miss him tremendously. You and your family are a great blessing to our family! Thanks for your tribute to our Dad.
Todd
What a kind and gentle man he was. Your testimony was right on. He made me a better son-in-law for who he was.
Thank You.
Thanks for the role you played in Dad’s life and for your tribute to him on Monday. The service was a celebration of his life and your words were an encouragement to everyone there. As a result, even those who were in attendance but didn’t know Dad, left feeling as if they were one of his friends. Thank you for loving him and sharing your family with he and Mother.
We lost a great one this week, too. My heart goes out to you folks. You all are in our thoughts and prayers!
Keep on keeping on and carry on the legacy!
Todd,
I had a wake-up call last night with my 18 year old Daughter. How she had wanted to learn to build fires and my younger son got the be the Boy Scout. The locust has taken many years but we’ve committed to a new future. 5 months ‘till college and counting…
