Leaking Like a Sieve But Having the Time of Our Lives

Remember all those expensive RV repairs that I told you about last week? Well, one of those items that was replaced was a new compressor for my air brakes. It sure made a big difference once it was replaced, and I was glad to have it fixed…until I saw the big spot of oil that seemed to be leaking from it every time we stopped.

To make a long story short, I spent the night at Cummins Crosspoint in Evansville, IN and found out that the compressor was bad and needed to be replaced…again. Not only did they replace it for FREE but they also bought pizza for the whole family. Talk about one satisfied customer and a good reminder why when you’re on the road, it’s good to use a service center that has outlets all over the country.

I also did battle with several little water leaks in the Familyman mobile. I have to put one off until I can get a valve at an RV place, but I stopped several little leaks with my new favorite leak stopper called a Shark Biter. You can find them at The Home Depot, and I’m thinking of naming my next child after the shark biter. I tried compression fittings but nothing…but nothing compares to the Shark Biter.

Anyway, we don’t have to be in St. Louis until Thursday so we plan to visit The Magic House in St. Louis, MO tomorrow and then after our homeschool conference in the arch city, we hit the road for Albuquerque, NM and the famed Route 66.

PS — Sorry there are no pictures, but we can’t find the cable from the camera to the computer.

So until then, turn wide and keep your eye on your tail,

  1. If you haven’t been to the Magic House before, you’ll love it. We were there last year, on vacation and the kids didn’t want to leave. Have a blessed time

  2. Sorry to hear about the problems you are having. My family and I have lived fulltime in our RV for over a year and my experience with Cummins shops has been great. Will be praying for your leaks to stop as this can be troublesome in an RV (been there, done that). And will hopefully see you at the PA homeschool convention

  3. I am SO glad that you guys are OK and tooling down the road! Great job! -You ‘da Dad!

  4. Hey Todd,
We (our church men, North County Bible Fellowship in Speculator, New York) went to “Iron Sharpens Iron” men’s conference in Albany this last weekend, more men than last year, 300+ more.
    Have safe travels,
    me-da-dad, Dan

  5. Nice story today. thought I would let you know about our compromise when it comes to RV’s and Ice Cream. I have the same dumb attitude about overpriced ice cream. The difference is my wife agrees with me. (hey it happens sometimes!) Any way we plan ahead and have ice cream, toppings, nuts, whipcream, Oreo’s for crushing, etc. in stock in the RV. One trip into Wal-mart and less cash than you would spend for the Ice Cream Man should do the trick. Now Whenever the subject of ice cream comes up we pull into a rest stop or park and whip up make-your own sundaes. The Kids love it! They get lots more ice cream than the would in a cone and we always take pictures of each creation. The final stop on any trip is to finish of what is left of the ice cream etc. This is always a bright spot in the normally boring “last long strech” before home. Our kids have come to love it and every time they talk about previous stops adventures in sundae building, as well as the whipcream fight, the time Matthew got chocolate in his hair, you get the picture. It would be hard for our kids to go back to “plain old Ice Cream Man” stuff.

    God Bless

  6. Hey Familyman, The zoo, art museum, science museum and everything else in Jewel Park is FREE. They even have a brand new planetarium although there may be a charge for that. St. Louis is awesome – enjoy your trip.
