The Last Push

Well, it seems as though we’ve been on the road forever, and we’re all running down. We speak in Richmond for the next couple of days, visit Jamestown for the big 400th anniversary celebration and then head home. Ahhhhh, home. Everyone is excited to stretch out and sleep in their own beds.

The RV has been running a little rough (although it runs good after it warms up). I’ve checked the few things that I know to check and it doesn’t seem too urgent. I would ask for your prayers that we’ll get home without incident so I can get it fixed before we head out for Ohio in 2 weeks.

Now, let me back up a bit. Since leaving Springdale, AR, we traveled about 1,200 miles. Along the way, we stopped in at Casey Jones’ home in Tennessee (think big train accident and song) and stopped at knife Mecca, Smoky Mountain Knife Works where the boys got a few “souvenirs.”

Tuesday, we drove about 40 miles out of our way and visited Andy Griffith’s hometown and his inspiration for Mayberry (Mount Airy, NC). It’s pretty corny at times, but it was fun to a few Andy Griffith fans. We stopped by Floyd’s Barber shop, Wally’s filling station, and Andy’s home of over 30 years. In fact, if you plan some in advance, you can even spend the night in his home www.andyshomeplace.com Now if you really want some fun and a chance to meet some of the original cast members, you’ll want to visit during Mayberry Days (the last weekend in September).

Yesterday, we visited Colonial Williamsburg and spent the day experiencing life at about the time of the Revolution.

Well, I’d better close. Like I said, we’re on our way home after this weekend’s convention in Virginia. Then, Ben and I fly out to Montana for the Montana Homeschool Convention. After that, we head back out to Ohio.

That’s all the news form the road!
