Greetings from Fort Worth, TX
Last time I wrote, Debbie had just thrown up and we were kind of waiting for the other shoe to be upchucked. It never came, and we were able to stroll the San Antonio Riverwalk in…San Antonio. Very cool, although not quite as romantic with eight kids tagging along. Must do if you find yourself in the area. Plus, it’s right across the street from the Alamo.
After San Antonio, we trucked down to Mustang Island State Park (right on the ocean) and were mighty disappointed by the prospect. Not only was there a big sign right after the welcome sign that read “Watch Out for Snakes,” but it also became apparent that in the big state of Texas everything is bigger…including the measurements of distance.
Biggest Dead Snake
Greetings from San Antonio, TX
Hey Dad,
It’s been a busy week since I last wrote. While at Springfield, MO we were able to stop at two of our favorite restaurants, Lambert’s Cafe and Incredible Pizza.
Lambert’s is home of the throwed rolls and a tourist trap worth being trapped at. The portions are huge and the atmosphere is wonderful. Incredible pizza is Christian owned and has been the site of Ike’s birthday meal (age 10) for the last four years (think Chuck E Cheese on steroids…without the mouse).
Everything’s Drippy in Kansas City
If at first you don’t succeed, fail, fail, again. Although I was able to get a gasket for the drippy A/C unit at Kansas City Trailer I still can’t beat the toilet. While KC Trailer, I picked up a new water valve, a fitting, and installed them both. Turned on the water and it leaked like a small Niagara Falls…aauuugggggg!!!!
While in KC we stopped in the Truman Presidential Museum long wnough to see his famous Buck Stops Here sign and learn about the president who dropped the bomb on Japan. We planned to take in the Harley Davidson Factory Tour but ran out of time.
Traveling Songs!!!!
Whoooweee! You came to my rescue with all kinds of good traveling songs that mention place names. Here’s what you suggested, and then I’ll list what I chose for this year’s 2009 Traveling CD:
How about the song Hollywood by The Statler Brothers. You can find it on there Atlanta Blue Album or on there A 30th Anniversary Celebration Box Set. ~ Carl W.
You GOTTA include that quintessential “on the road” song made famous by the hotel commercials, “I’ve been everywhere” by Johnny Cash! A fun one to try to memorize… makes long trips go by quicker! ~ Greg M.
Doing battle with the RV Toilet Beast
I concede, the clock has run out, I have been beaten, the RV toilet wins…for now. Here’s the short of it. After having tried everything, ruined at least two parts, I’ve capped off the water line and will have to use the toilet with a cup of water. We can still use it…but we’ll have to fill up a cup from the sink and dump it in the stool. Sound glamerous? It is. But at least it will work.
I’ll stop in a RV store along the way or wiat ’till we get home to fix it right.
Did you hear that BEAST? I will be back, and I will WIN!!!!!
The Iowa Corn Song!!
T-Shirt Design Contest Winner!!!
We’ve got ourselves a *winner* for the ‘no-more-goofy-t-shirts-for dad” contest. Out of the 50 t-shirt ideas and designs, Brent Welborn’s design embodies the tough, don’t mess with my family attitude that I was looking for. A special mention (and a FREE shirt) goes to Jeremy Hamilton who proposed the initial idea.
Not only is it very tough and cool, but it speaks volumes: “Yeah, I’m ‘da dad…and if you cut me in two, I be a DAD to the Bone!”
