Feeling old and liking it…kind of
Not much going on around here. Sam (18) just got his wisdom teeth yanked out so he’s sitting in front of the TV recovering and watching shows about tanks, fighter jets, and poisonous animals. Doesn’t get any better than that.
Yesterday we celebrated his birthday and had dinner at his favorite restaurant, Haciendas. For added birthday hype we invited some cousins up and by the time we got to the restaurant we had a pretty good crowd.
We let all the kids sit down and one end of the long table and Debbie and I sat at the other with Cal (6) and Jed (5) barely able to hear their conversations. But we could hear their laughter and see their smiles.
To be honest I felt OLD…like I was the group bus driver. But at the same time I felt very dad-ish watching my kids enjoy themselves almost oblivious to the fact that I was there. Maybe it felt good knowing that one day when they are all grown up and I’m gone…they’ll be OK. And even then I’ll be watching from the far end of the table with that “cloud of witnesses.”
It’s good to be ‘da dad…except when it’s not.
You ‘da dad,
Todd
PS – If you are really clever, I bet you could come up with something fun to do as a family on this semi-holiday. I’d love to hear you ideas.
Way to go Dad!!!
