Movie Review – Pete’s Dragon
Hey Dad,
I like movies. Some of my best growing up memories are in a dark movie theater watching some Disney feature on the big screen. Now, some of my best family times are taking the whole family to a new release, a highly anticipated sequel, or a midnight showing of some movie with dwarves and orcs.
I’m not concerned with all those movies that dads shouldn’t take their kids to (or watch themselves)…but I am all about movies that dads can enjoy with their entire family.
Just yesterday we went to one of them in our little towns theater. Pete’s Dragon.
It was a sweet adventure that offered enough roar without giving nightmares or sending the younger one’s for cover. For a detailed account of you can checked out Plugged-In Online’s review.
And while it was a thoroughly enjoyable movie with intact relationships, non-offensive language, and a loveable green dragon…it made me think even more highly of the original, 1977 Pete’s Dragon.
I might have seen it at the theater as a kid, but I’ve loved watching it multiple times with my children. We sing along and laugh at those cantankerous Gogan’s, over the top con-man, Doc Terminus, and grandpa figure Lampy (played by Mickey Rooney).
The music is classic Disney…and back then you didn’t even have to worry about inappropriate content.
So if you want a great family movie and haven’t watched the original Pete’s dragon you should get a copy this weekend and make it a movie night.
I give Disney’s original Pete’s Dragon…as well as the re-make, The Familyman’s Seal of Approval.
