Back in the Saddle Again
Hey Dad,
I’ve been out of the loop for four weeks. That’s a long time in dad-days. Here’s a quick run down of what has happened in that time:
– Hit the road on Oct. 2 and drove problem free all the way to Athens, AL. Had a great time at a great church. RV ran like
a dream.
– Made our way to Knoxville and Winston Salem…things went well.
– Ran down to Chattanooga and had a little issue with the water pump on the RV (the water we drink and use to flush the…toilet). God was gracious and there was a Camping World a few miles away. Dropped the girls off for some shopping ran and got an exact match and was back in business 15 minutes later (my kind of fix).
– While in Chattanooga took the incline railroad to the top of Look out Mountain and re-toured the battlefield of Chickamauga. I highly recommend both although the incline railroad was a tad scarier than I anticipated.
– From that point on we had a speaking event every day for about 10 days. It was a crazy good. We’d set up, speak, tear down…and then head off to the next event. I don’t know how many times we drove the same route…back and forth.
– Made it to Florida and zigged and zagged across the west central part of the state.
– Had a few more RV problems…generator quit running (easy fix with a new fuel filter) and broke a bolt holding down the toilet (made for a stinky rest of the trip).
– Finally made it to Fort Wilderness for some much needed family R&R. While there, Cal(9) cracked my windshield with a toy and familyman, Peter Bracknell (Steering Creations) replaced my steering wheel with a very cool ‘you ‘da dad’ Italian, mahogany wheel. He even drove and picked up a new bolt for my toilet to make the rest of the trip a little less…smelly.
– The trip home was uneventful (just the way I like it)…although the generator stopped working (I think I know what it is). Now we’re unpacking and overwhelmed by the work that needs to be done.
That’s about it. This weekend I speak at a Couple’s Retreat at Forest Springs, WI and then I get home to celebrate my birthday with the most wonderful family in the world. I feel very full…although I have a long list of RV fixes that need to take place.
We’ve got it good, Dad.
Glad to be a dad,
