Product Review – Handi-Treads
For years my wife’s family has had a lake cottage in northern Indiana. It sits on a little hill and slopes down toward the lake. When they bought it the only way down from the parking lot was some cobbled together cement blocks that were as dangerous as they were ugly. It was dangerous enough for a nimble person, but we were sure Grandpa was going to be killed on those stairs.
Ten years ago, we replaced the cement block ‘system’ with brand new wooden steps. Now it was safe and easy for Grandpa. Over time the wooden treads accumulated moss and dirt and when it rained they were as slippery as all get-out. In fact, even in the morning dew they were dangerously slick. Again we found ourselves fearing for Grandpa’s life.
So, I started looking for non-slip tread strips but all I found were those flimsy, peel and stick kind and knew that they wouldn’t last two seasons. That’s when I discovered HandiTreads.com. And WOW!!! what a product.
I’m sure these treads will outlast the wooden steps that they sit on. One day, when I rebuild them I’ll unscrew the Handi-Treads and re-apply them to the new steps. Each tread is made from aluminum (come in several colors) and dotted with raised dimples to give you a non-slip surface (and yet are comfortable to my bare feet). The steps come with plenty of stainless steel screws to attach them to the steps, and it ONLY took about 15 min. for my son to screw them down.
I’m telling you, this is a great product, and if you have some ‘killer-steps’ at your house, you owe it to Grandpa and the rest of your family to give them a safe climb. So check out HandiTreads.com (or call 800-733-4726) – and don’t forget to tell them The Familyman sent you.
