Tips for Traveling Dads
Hey Dad,
I need your tips for traveling dads. If you travel in your line of work, there are dangers, pressures, and family issues that you face that other dads may not. If you have a tip or tidbit of advice for other traveling dads (things that have worked and haven’t worked for you), would you post them below?
You ‘da dad even if you travel,
FaceTime and Skype are great for seeing your kids while away. I once helped my daughter with algebra via FaceTime and she was able to show me her problem and where she got stuck.
I get connected with the kids on FaceTime each night, and stay connected to my wife on FaceTime all night long.
Relieves her anxiety, eliminates all worry about where either of us are, and what we’re doing.
Ditto on Facetime. It’s a great way to stay in touch with the kids (and Mom!) when traveling.
Hey Todd,
This is a great question. One I wrestle with a lot. As a corporate pilot and public speaker through our outdoor ministry I spend about 60-70 nights on the road per year. What the Lord has really taught me over the past couple years is that although I maybe physically away from my family I am not emotionally and most importantly “spiritually” away from them. He has taught me that I can do as much or more for my family by earnestly praying for them throughout the day and by my bedside at night while I am away, as what I can do many times while I am there with them physically when I am home. Texting, Skype, Facetime etc always is a plus too just to help us feel connected.
