Merry Christmas

Our big news for 2014 is that our eldest son Ben got engaged and will be married to Rissa Pitt on June 6, 2015…and it’s at our house! I can’t tell you how pleased we are. Debbie and I comment often on how well they fit and complement each other. We’re pleased as punch to be adding Rissa to the family although she seems like she’s already part of it.
Katherine (17) and Maggie (10) are both thrilled by the prospects of being in a wedding, having a new sister-in-law, and wearing a bridesmaid dress. It’s so much fun to see all four girls (including Debbie and Rissa) huddled together talking over the details of the big day.
It’s especially nice to see Maggie all bubbly because she was sick with pneumonia over Thanksgiving. It was actually kind of scary and involved over a week and a half of very high fever, passing out (3x), and an ambulance ride to the hospital. But praise God she’s doing better and back to her giggling self.
The boys aren’t as stricken with ‘wedding fever,’ although no one likes the prospects of Ben leaving. Abe (13) said several months ago with heartfelt emotion, “It’s going to be so sad having Ben move out…CAN I HAVE HIS DESK?!” Abe’s actually more excited for the premier of The Hobbit 3 which is just a few days away.
Ike (15) is harder to read, spending much of his time creating, designing, inventing, and welding in the garage. I’m sure he’s excited about the wedding as well, as long as it doesn’t fall on volleyball night (every Tuesday).
Cal (8) and Jed (6) are going to miss Ben. And they make it a point to tell Ben, show Ben, and ask Ben all kinds of things whenever he’s home. Cal can’t wait to wear a suit and tie and is hoping to wear sunglasses as well.
Sam (19) will be hit the hardest, losing his roommate of nineteen years. Ben works a lot now and is gone a bunch, but he still sleeps in his bed and I can hear him and Sam talking softly in their room. Sam is close to finishing up his training through Animation Mentor. Allow me to brag as his dad. His mentors (who are all making animated movies right now) have all acknowledged his proficiencies and achievement. It won’t be long before we see his name scrolling up the credits.
That leaves the mother of the groom. It’s hard to believe that we could have a son walking down the aisle when it seems like Debbie and I just did that ourselves a few years ago. She still takes my breath away…but would say she’s a little overwhelmed by life at times.
I feel so thankful and abundantly blessed and full. God has been too kind to this old dad. I just wish the time didn’t pass so quickly.
Merry Christmas from all of us!
