Suicide? Don’t do it dad!!

Hey Dad,

All the world is a buzz about the suicide of Robin Williams. Not only was it tremendously sad, but it has given bloggers, writers, and news people new fodder for the ‘info-glut’ that clogs the web and fills the airwaves.

Now everyone is focusing in on depression and Parkinson…hoping to shed light on some unexplored aspect of Mr. William’s story and to get more hits, likes, or views.

I’m not going to weigh in on the depression debate. I know it’s real and it clouds and blurs vision. All I’m going to say is this: If you feel like killing yourself, DON’T DO IT, DAD!!!!! It’s not the answer and just makes everything ten times more difficult for those left behind.

I had a friend, and fellow familyman, who ended his life. I’m not sure what he was thinking but I don’t think he was thinking rationally about the hole he would leave and the hurt that his family will carry forever.

You may convince yourself that ‘checking out” is best for everyone…but it’s a LIE. They need you to stay alive!!! That doesn’t mean you need to go it alone. Tell someone, get help, tell me…but stay ALIVE!!!

They need you. They need you so much.

You ‘da dad,

Todd

  1. My father committed suicide when I was 12.
My wife-seperate for 7yrs is the cruelest person I’ve ever known.
She has destroyed me with her words and actions so much.
We have 3 kids. Only 1 biologically mine but I accept and love and have raised when allowed
The other 2 as my own. They know me as dad. But this woman hates me so much she is wanting to marry
Her regestered sex offender boyfriend, change his last name to the kids/mine
And leave them to him in her will. Add to that is his first and middle names are my fathers first and middle just reversed.
She told me she wants me to commit suicide so the kids are better off and she can move on.
She’s treated me this way for 11 yrs. i often question if she is right and find myself thinking of suicide. I pray daily for Jesus to guide me and help me. And I am trying to grow in my love and relationship with him.

    1. Satan works to destroy our lives, our family, and our faith. I can not imagine what you are going through. The only advice I can give is try to get custody of your biological child, document EVERYTHING! Document every instance of any abuse (against you or the children), document the sex offenders presence around your children, document everything. Do not let satans temptations of “the easy way out” get to you. I lived several years with almost daily thoughts of suicide, God will help you over come. Get involved in your local church if you are not already, join the mens groups, join support groups, find a biblical therapist to help you. Those children need you now more then ever, do not check out on them. I will be praying for you brother and remember You ‘da Dad!

  2. My dad committed suicide when I was 19, my sister was 16, and my brother was 11. I was the only one to hear the gunshot. 20 years later I have a beautiful wife and 6 children. My siblings are doing well also due to God’s providence. However the mental wound my dads suicide has caused makes me ponder it everyday. Jesus has healed me however it still brings tears to me to talk about it with others. A fathers suicide will affect you forever on this earth. Suicide is never the answer and it leaves an emotional wound for survivors that never really heals.
