The First Advent…and the Goat Cam
Hey Dad,
Well, tonight is our first Advent of the season…and I’m a little nervous. Don’t know why I should be. My kids love anything we do. But I feel like they expect it to be…good. It rarely is. Usually I get mad during the night and threaten to forget Christmas all together.
Tonight we’re going to do a little craft, read our book “The Secret of the Snow Village” and then read a portion from the Bible. I kind of feel like the kids all know the routine…”Yeh, tonight we light the prophecy candle…blah blah blah…”
I think that’s why I’m nervous. I want it to be meaningful, but know it won’t be. It’s just hard to engage all the listeners from 5-20. But maybe in family you really do get points for trying. So I’ll try. For something different I printed off a list of 44 prophecies that Jesus fulfilled. We might read a few of them…we’ll see.
On a lighter note: the Gavle Goat is back and looking good on the goat cam. I guess it’s a Swedish tradition that I’ve somehow gotten caught up in. Last year some hooligans burnt it down halfway through December…which is kind of a tradition. The cool thing about it is you can watch it on the 24 hour goat cam…which seems magical to me (it being on the other side of the world and all).
All that means Christmas is well under way. I’ve got some projects I need to get cracking on…and it’s never too early to start thinking about a gift for your wife.
Like advent night, Christmas never goes like I think it should go, but the important thing to remember is that you get lots of family points just for showing up.
Don’t miss a moment of it.
You ‘da dad,
Todd
