Movie Review – Monster’s University

Hey Dad,

Had our Kid’s day this past Friday and saw Monster’s U. I hate to report this…but it was OK. Not as fun as Monster’s Inc…just OK. It’s kind of like the back story for the first movie…and while it was good in parts, over-all it was OK. Sadly we always get our hopes up for the second movie when the first was so goo…as was the case with MU.

On a dad note: I think they handle the fact that Monster’s scare kids very thoughtfully and it doesn’t’ seem to reinforce the idea that kids should be scared of what lurks under their bed. It paints college life pretty accurately as a party scene, but my younger kids would never make the connection that it’s alcohol or ‘bad stuff’ related. I like that.

This weekend Despicable Me 2 comes out, and we have our hopes really high. But the thing is, it’s never about the movie, it’s about the time spent with my family as we watch a movie…and tat is always MORE than OK.

On a related note, my brother in law was saying he checks out movies on a website called Common Sense (not Christian)as well as Plugged IN. He said it was a more general review and maybe not as black and white as Plugged IN (decidedly Christian which counts the bad words…and I like that). So here’s another tool for your dad-tool box. We dads need plenty of them.
