I Like That Duck Dynasty Dad
Just two weeks ago I had never heard of Duck Dynasty…now I’m a fan. In fact, while we were in Winnipeg we watched several episodes on that fancy hotel TV. Last night we streamed a few episodes to show my wife…and she laughed.
In case you’re not familiar with the show, it’s about a hillbilly family that has made a fortune selling duck calls and hunting stuff. They all sport long hair and beards and are just a bunch of good old boys. The super cool thing is that they’re Christians. There are no bleeps (not so with most of the other swamp guy, dangerous catch…type shows).
What I really like is that the oldest dad was a college QB (Terry Bradshaw was his backup) and was drafted his junior year but didn’t accept because he wanted to hunt ducks. I like that in a dad. He may seem a little brash and non-emotional during the show but at the end of each episode it shows him gathered around their table as he prays a heart felt pray of thanksgiving for his family and whatever might be happening in their lives.
I like that dad!!! Yes, it’s a little contrived sometimes, and they know how to act like hillbillies, but I like that dad and his stance about what matters and his not-ashamed prayers to Jesus.
Makes me want to grow a long beard.
You ‘da dad,
Todd
We love that show as well and it’s a show our whole family looks forward to and sits down and enjoys together on the couch. I’d encourage you to do some surfing on YouTube for more videos of the dad, Phil Robertson, and his sons, Willie Robertson and Jase Robertson also sharing and talking about their faith. I’m sure you’ll start liking them all even more!
I wasn’t sure when the show first started, but I’ve come to love it. Here are a couple video’s where Lifeway interviews Phil Robertson. I really enjoy these video’s and thought you might like them as well.

Great videos!!!
I have a trimmed beard but could go long in a minute (I love my wife so it stays trimmed). I have heard Phil’s oldest son speak (Alan Robertson) great message, he is a former pastor for over 20 years. Alan now works for the family business and I believe they are a great family to cheer on in this world of poor examples. I pray they are protected from the world of “scandal” that the media surely will try to throw their way.
Todd,
You’ll want to watch Willie’s speech at a Christian college and Jase’s interview at a separate college. You’ll see just how they feel about evangelism and the family in these two clips.
Grow a beard Todd! I dare ya!
Ahem… We prefer the term ‘Redneck’ -sincerely, South Louisiana
I’ve been avoiding this show so far. I’ve seen snippets and it just seemed like it was a little too juvenile. Now everyone around me is watching it! Since I don’t have cable I’ll have to stream it.
