Day 21 – You Never Know

Hey Dad,

The Sandy Hook School shooting caused the world to stop its Christmas celebrating this past Friday. Not much matters in comparison. It’s sad that it takes something so terrible to remind us again of what really matters.

I know every family involved knows exactly what matters and what doesn’t.  I know there’s not a mom or dad who lost a child that day who doesn’t have regrets. Maybe they were at odds that morning trying to get ready for school with unfinished projects or maybe they were just too busy with Christmas details to say goodbye. Had they known…but they couldn’t have. No one ever does.

That’s why I wrote the story, “The Last Christmas” because no one ever knows…including you.

Dad, you have right now. Spend it on those who matter. You never know.
