Blown Away!

We’re just waking up from our first night in our RV. We made it all the way to Louisville, KY the first night. Probably could have made it all the way to Nashville if the RV awnings hadn’t been blow open along the interstate.

That’s right…2 of our awnings…the little one in the back AND the big $1000 awning. Somehow the big one “got” unlocked and the gusty wind began to unfurl it. Three stops along the road, and we got it remedied…I hope.

Last night was cold, but we stayed ‘kind of’ warm.

Blast Off 2011

Hey Dad,
We’re off!!! Or almost off. We’re packing like crazy to hit the road in the next couple of hours. We need to be in Montgomery, AL on Thursday. That gives a little wiggle room in case. I hate “in case.”

Don’t know how far we’ll get tonight. We won’t drive to hard. Maybe enjoy a family video in the first night on the road.

Right now it’s sunny..which is real good. Nothing like pulling out of the driveway when it’s gray and pouring down rain.

Perspective

Hey Dad,
Every once in a while you’d just like things to be easy. For a dad that rarely happens. I know that every time I go out to the RV launch pad it seems there is another thing that doesn’t work.

I still can’t figure out why the roof is leaking…and now I think one of my four batteries is dead. The thing weighs a ton and is a bear to get out. The heater which worked a day or two ago isn’t working (I think it’s a moisture problem)…and the list goes on.

Just getting ready

Hey Dad,

It’s gray and cold here in Northern, IN. I sure could use some warmth and sunshine as I get the Familyman mobile ready to hit the road (2 weeks). Yesterday I knocked off one of the perplexing problems with my rear A/C unit.

Last year it kept dumping water all over my bed. I popped off the cover and discovered a broken piece of Styrofoam that was supposed to funnel off the condensed water. I glued a piece of plastic over the broken piece and badabing…it’s solved.

Hot ‘n Sweaty in the Bayou

Whew, it’s humid down in the Bayou. Things have gone great so far. Not only have we met alot of great familymen, but we’ve seen some beautiful parts of the counrty.

In fact, one of my new favorite stretches of road is I-10 from Jacksonville, FL to Houston, TX. Not only does it stay close to the coast, but it’s just so differnt with great beaches and exotic bayous and people. If your driving it, make sure you get off on 90 and old 90 from Biloxi to New Orleans.

We did go to New Orleans but didn’t stay long. I was alittle afraid of “seeing” too much, but it felt safe and it was before lunch. We walked to Bourbon street but my kids whined most of the way, “What’s so neat about this?”

Huntsville, AL – Rocket Museum

OK, I'll shoot straight with you...the Huntsville Rocket Center is cool...but I'm not sure it's as cool as it costs. I know we had several Alabama people tell us that it was awesome...and part of it were, but for the…
