Familyman Fix It or Finish It February

FFIFFI is more than just a month to get some stuff done it’s an opportunity to step up to the plate and be ‘da dad/husband…to show your wife and children that you’re the PROVIDER and PROTECTOR of the family.

I’m telling you those task that have been staring you in the face for so long won’t take you a fraction of the time you think it will take to knock them out. All you’ve got to do is to make up your mind, start on the project, and it’ll be done for good before you know it.

Still need a little nudge? Be brave and let the other dads know what you’re tackling and post them below (in the comment section). Towards the end of the month I’ll send you a reminder to nudge you in getting it done.

You’re it…get out your tool belt!

  1. I just bought a generator, transfer switch, and outdoor receptacle for the generator that I will be installing this month.

  2. Remodeling the main bathroom – new granite countertop, sink, & faucet (already installed), trimming out the window, fresh paint, and new flooring.

  3. I need to install two push button light switches I bought my wife for Christmas (my way of making a promise to get things done) to replace existing switches. Not too tough, I presume, but I keep putting it off…

  4. Finally put a toilet in and finished the baseboard trim to complete the basement bathroom project that was mostly done a few years ago 🙂
Build a couple of wood shelf organizers for a closet that has been slightly messy, this project has been on the list for a few years as well.

  5. “Those tasks … won’t take you a fraction of the time you think it will take to knock them out.” If only that were true. Seems like whenever I start a project, it takes twice as long as I expect. But, thanks for the reminder and motivation for this. I hadn’t really thought about how seeing unfinished projects can affect how the family feels. I’ll be working on some shelves so we can finally get some more books unpacked from their moving boxes (that have been in there for about 3 years now).

  6. I am not too bad about putting things off around my house. I felt caught up enough about two weeks ago to install a new dishwasher for my sister in law, she is so glad and would have had to pay so I told my wife and her that I would do it.

  7. I need to put up the outside backdoor and screen door that I bought. We are in the Vortex cold and the window is falling out, letting in the cold. Just cannot seem to tackle it. Also need to paint a wall and finish the last mud on a ceiling, so I can paint it. But I am going to try for February.

  8. Remove the striped wall paper with floral border from the downstairs bathroom. It was one of the only things I didn’t like about this house we bought almost 9.5 years ago. Prime, paint… It’s a many weekend project.

  9. I commit to getting the garage cleaned out and organized. I have started and made progress several times but have just never finished it. Thanks for the encouragement Todd. Putting it on this list will make sure I get ‘er done this time!

  10. During my Christmas vacation from work I painted the hallway from the garage and the kitchen walls which had been on the To-Do list for over 2 years. However, what I really put off was painting the kitchen cabinets and doors so I completed those in February!!!! Thanks for your reminders and encouragement. Next up is decluttering, I have old records from my Dad’s estate 8 years ago that she needs me to move.

  11. I need to replace a piece of wood-laminate trim on our stairs. It got broken the day we moved into this house — over 2 years ago.

  12. Finally put up 5 inside doors after having them for near on 6 years. Took about another half a year to get to the main bedroom door knob/lock.
Also, finally put a fly screen on a window that never had one. I’m not good at making the house a priority over the farm work.
Don’t get discouraged, just keep chipping away at it.
    Cheers

  13. Fixed a light switch that wouldn’t work half the time and getting caught up some some tax stuff that need to finally get one. Feels good!
