On the Road Again

Hey Dad,

I’m telling you, the success to any travel adventure is prayer, the dad’s attitude, and great music. Thanks to all of you who have prayed, this dad’s attictude hasn’t always been the best, but we sure have enjoyed some good traveling music thanks to all your music ideas.

Cal (3) has become a real Willie Nellsen fan and loves to sing, “On the Road Again.” As far as the rest of the kids, they love the Johnny Cash song “I’ve been Everywhere, Man.”

Right now we’re headed to Lansing, MI and will be stopping by home to re-stock and let the kids enjoy some quick ‘home time.’

Hope this doesn’t offend any of my fellow dads in Texas but we were all glad to leave the state. I’m thinking we had a little to much unplanned down time there…or maybe it was the way those Texans drive! Not only do people drive on the shoulder of the road…and are OK with that, but they have some mighty mixed up on and off ramps in their cities.

I’m sure we were almost killed at least a couple of times. Poor Gloria (the voice on our GPS) never talked so fast, “Get in the right lane…bare left, no I mean right…not that right lane the other lane…watch out for that oncoming car…can someone unplug me?”

Whew! I’m getting worked up just writing about it.

One highlight while we were waiting in Arlington was that Debbie and the big kids got to spend the day at Six Flags while I took the little kids to Chuck E Cheese (CEC).

Her crew had a great time on the roller coasters, and my crew was equally impressed by the significantly cheaper, and less death defying, CEC.

I knew it was the right move when Maggie was riding the big rocking horse (see photo) and said, “This is really scary.”

The kids and the RV are doing great but all the time in the RV puts a strain on our marriage. I’m hoping to begin to make things with my wife while we’re at home. RV Marriage Lesson #253 – The longer you wait to fix things, the harder they are to fix.

So, Dad, if you have some “things” to fix. You better get at it.

Until next time, sing wide and keep your eye on your tail,

  1. Hey Todd! We just passed you in your RV 30-35 miles before Columbus Ohio. We are on our way to New York but stoping in Ohio and Pennsylvania and then on to NY.
